The Registered Vascular/Cardiac Sonographer will deliver care to patients utilizing the Registered Vascular/Cardiac Sonographer Process. This role will produce two-dimensional ultrasonic recordings and Doppler flow analyses of heart and related structures, using ultrasound equipment, for use by physicians in the diagnosis of heart disease and study of the heart. The sonographer will calculate, measure, and document appropriate values on the tests performed for review and interpretation by physicians. They will perform diagnostic carotid arterials and venous studies of upper and lower extremities and venous studies of patients with suspected peripheral vascular disease by following ICAVL guidelines. The role involves explaining procedures to patients to obtain cooperation and reduce anxieties, reviewing test results with the interpreting physician, and conducting vascular laboratory studies in accordance with vascular laboratory protocols. The sonographer will ensure that all vascular laboratory studies are scheduled appropriately to satisfy the clinical situation, maintain the vascular laboratory quality assurance database, and prepare and maintain operational logs. Calibration and maintenance of equipment and ordering of supplies when needed are also part of the responsibilities. The role may perform therapeutic procedures such as peripheral compression and communicate with physicians, managers, and co-workers as appropriate about changes in patient's clinical conditions while undergoing echocardiogram.
