Independently performs routine and specialized overnight and day sleep studies. This role involves explaining testing procedures to patients to obtain cooperation and reduce anxiety, monitoring patients’ comfort and safety during tests, alerting physicians to abnormalities or changes in patient responses, and obtaining and recording patient identification and medical history. The technologist will adjust equipment and controls according to physicians’ orders or established protocol, prepare and position patients for testing, and check, test, and maintain equipment, making minor repairs when necessary. Additionally, this position may involve supervising or training other technologists or students, scoring sleep studies and generating reports, assisting the chief tech in assessing competencies, and attending workshops to stay current with sleep disorder trends. The role requires adaptability and flexibility to handle emergencies, changing workloads, personnel shortages, new instrumentation, new procedures, disaster situations, and unexpected events. Responsibilities include checking email each shift, communicating with colleagues, and performing disinfection as per manufacturer recommendations. Adherence to standard precautions, hand hygiene, and accurate recording of technical procedures are essential. Active participation in department huddles, meetings, and communication is expected, along with accountability for meeting/exceeding department goals, DCH Values, Mission, and Vision. Maintaining performance, patient and employee satisfaction, and financial standards, as well as adhering to compliance requirements and DCH Behavioral Standards, are crucial. Essential job functions must be performed in a manner that ensures the safety of patients, visitors, and employees, identifying and reducing unsafe practices and risks.
