About The Position

Independently performs routine and specialized overnight and day sleep studies. This role involves explaining testing procedures to patients, monitoring their comfort and safety, obtaining medical history, adjusting equipment, preparing patients for testing, maintaining equipment, and scoring sleep studies to generate reports. The position also includes assisting with training and competency assessments, staying updated on sleep disorder trends, and adapting to various workplace situations. Adherence to standard precautions, DCH Standards, and policies is essential.

Requirements

  • RPSGT or Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) credentialing required.
  • Must pass competency assessment as approved and documented by the Sleep Medical Director.
  • CPR certification required.
  • Must be able to read, write legibly, speak and comprehend English.

Responsibilities

  • Performs overnight and day sleep studies, routine and specialized, on a variety of patients within all age groups excluding neonate and infant.
  • Explain testing procedures to patients to obtain cooperation and reduce anxiety.
  • Monitor patients’ comfort and safety during tests, alerting physicians to abnormalities or changes in patient responses.
  • Obtain and record patient identification and medical history.
  • Adjust equipment and controls according to physicians’ orders or established protocol.
  • Prepare and position patients for testing.
  • Check, test, and maintain equipment, making minor repairs when necessary, to ensure proper operation.
  • Supervise or train other technologists or students.
  • Scores sleep studies and generates reports summarizing data and physiological events.
  • Assists chief tech in assessing Sleep Tech I and II competencies
  • Attends workshops, seminars, lectures and other programs as appropriate to gain knowledge of current trends in sleep disorders and techniques to insure high quality/effective studies
  • Must be adaptive and flexible to handle situations because of emergencies, changing workload, personnel shortages, new instrumentation, new procedures, changes in procedures, disaster and/or unsuspected events.
  • Responsible for checking email each shift and for communicating with Co-Workers, Lead Techs and Supervisors.
  • Perform Disinfection as per manufacturer’s recommendation (IFU)
  • Adheres to standard precautions and hand hygiene
  • Performs and accurately records technical procedures safely, effectively, efficiently, and within scope of policy
  • Actively participates in department huddles, meetings, and communication
  • Accountability related to meeting/exceeding department goals, DCH Values, DCH Mission and Vision
  • Maintains performance, patient and employee satisfaction and financial standards as outlined in the performance evaluation.
  • Performs compliance requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook

  • Performs essential job functions in a manner that ensures the safety of patients, visitors and employees.

  • Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet.
  • Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
