Pediatric Respiratory Therapists at Cleveland Clinic play an integral role in making recommendations and delivering outstanding pediatric patient care, working with physicians and nurses to provide the appropriate level of respiratory therapy for each child. Specializing in airway care and mechanical ventilation, RTs treat and care for children with a wide range of breathing problems, such as allergies, asthma, bronchitis, breathing disorders associated with the lungs or airway, pneumonia, and illnesses affecting the neuromuscular or skeletal muscular cardiopulmonary system. A caregiver in this position works nights, 7:00pm – 7:30am, with rotating weekend and holiday requirements.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree and graduate of a CoARC accredited Respiratory Therapy program
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
  • Ohio Respiratory Care Professional (RCP) Board Licensure
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Normal hearing and vision or corrected to normal range.
  • May require sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
  • You will be required to comply with this program, which will include obtaining an influenza vaccination on an annual basis or obtaining an approved exemption.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior neonatal/pediatric critical care experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Neonatal Pediatric Specialist (NPS) Certifications

Responsibilities

  • Provide assessment, treatment, care and evaluation to patients with respiratory insufficiencies.
  • Implement and monitor patient care plans.
  • Assess patients for the appropriate type and frequency of treatment and develop, implement and monitor patient care plans.
  • Monitor, record and communicate patients’ conditions.
  • Perform advanced respiratory care modalities, evaluate respiratory practice, administer medications and treatments, and perform blood gas puncture and analysis.
  • Educate patients and families about the illness and provide information about community support groups and other programs.
