About The Position

A respiratory therapist is a licensed healthcare professional who specializes in evaluating, treating, and caring for patients with breathing or cardiopulmonary disorders. They work with individuals of all ages. Respiratory therapists assess patients’ lung function, perform diagnostic tests, and administer treatments such as oxygen therapy, aerosol medications, and mechanical ventilation. They collaborate closely with physicians and nurses to develop and adjust care plans and educate patients and families on managing respiratory conditions and using home care equipment safely and effectively.

Requirements

  • Maintain current state licensure.
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills required.
  • Strong relationship and communication with physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, and clinical leaders required.
  • Continual industry and job specific education required.
  • Compliance with all laws, regulatory guidelines, and health care policies.
  • Compliance with hand hygiene guidelines and adherence to safe practices, identify and report unsafe practices.
  • Handling multiple priorities, making decisions under pressure, working near others and/or in a distracted environment, managing anger/fear/hostility, managing stress appropriately, working with others effectively, and working alone effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and treat patients with conditions like asthma, COPD, pneumonia, and emphysema.
  • Administer respiratory therapies, including oxygen therapy, aerosol medications, and chest physiotherapy.
  • Operate and monitor equipment such as ventilators and therapeutic gas administration devices.
  • Conduct diagnostic tests, including pulmonary function tests and stress testing.
  • Collaborate with physicians and nurses to develop and adjust treatment plans.
  • Educate patients and families on managing respiratory conditions and using home equipment.
