The Ottawa Community Lung Health Program provides an evidence-based approach that improves the health and quality of life of people living with Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Operating within a primary care setting, the program is delivered by a Registered Respiratory Therapist / Certified Respiratory Educator (RRT/CRE) who provides assessment, spirometry testing, education and behavioural management to respiratory clients and their families. We are looking for an experienced bilingual RRT/CRE to join the Ottawa Community Lung Health Program providing services in partnership with the Centre de Sante Communautaire de l’Estrie. The RRT/CRE will practice in accordance with the standards of professional practice as outlined by the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT) and the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario (CRTO), within a client and family centered model of care, upholding the values and vision of SWCHC and the Centre de Sante Communautaire de l’Estrie. The RRT/CRE will work as a member of a multidisciplinary team and collaborate with other allied health and primary care providers, serving as a resource for asthma, COPD and smoking cessation care. Reporting to the Manager of Health Services, the RRT/CRE works as part of a multidisciplinary team that provides excellent care to clients for the screening and management of chronic lung disease. The RRT/CRE establishes strong communication pathways between clients, family physicians, nurse practitioners, specialists, hospitals and other community and regional resources. This position requires the RRT/CRE to assist primary care providers in assessing, diagnosing, and educating clients and their families or caregivers about lung health, focusing on asthma and COPD. Lung health assessments are conducted, spirometry is performed in compliance with American Thoracic Society (ATS) guidelines and education, and self-management strategies are taught to clients, families, and caregivers in accordance with program standards. Other duties include partnering with community organizations, local health care providers and hospitals to increase awareness, knowledge, and skills to optimize lung health.
