About The Position

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is currently accepting applications for permanent casual Registered Practical Nurses for Riverview Gardens Long-Term Care facility with the Seniors Services division. The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) is responsible for providing nursing care for residents of the Long-Term Care Home, in accordance with the Standards of Nursing Practice as established by the College of Nurses of Ontario.

Requirements

  • Secondary school graduation diploma or equivalent education (i.e. GED certificate) required
  • Completion of a Practical Nursing program required
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as an RPN required
  • Possess current Standard First Aid and Level C CPR certifications
  • Healthcare Provider (C) certificate

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a post-diploma geriatric program is preferred
  • Training in appropriate use of restraints and current best practices in least restraint policy an asset
  • Experience with RAI-MDS coding an asset
  • Familiar with Point Click Care (PCC) / EMAR (Electronic Medication Administration Record) an asset
  • RPN work experience, or student placement experience, in a long-term care home an asset
  • RPN work experience or student placement experience in a setting for care of the elderly
  • Experience with restorative care
  • Experience participating in a workplace committee
  • Excellent team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Possess computer keyboarding skills

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate Chatham-Kent’s core values and competencies
  • Direct and lead the team of PSW staff to ensure quality care is delivered to our residents
  • Perform a variety of routine nursing procedures such as distributing medication to residents, taking blood pressure, temperature and pulse, collecting blood and other specimens, preparing residents for tests and surgery, and changing residents' dressings
  • Assist Registered Nurses with such procedures as respiratory therapy and intravenous therapy
  • Provide basic physical and supportive nursing care for residents with other members of the health care team (Registered Nurses, Psychiatric Nurses, and Doctors)
  • Monitor residents' progress, report changes in residents' condition and environment, and confer with other health care professionals about the plans for resident care
  • Ensure consistency in approach and optimum benefit for the residents by assessing, and identifying resident goals, planning, implementing, and evaluating the resident's progress
  • Follow all guidelines as legislated under the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Play an integral role in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care of residents
  • Protect own health and health of others by adopting safe work practices, reporting unsafe conditions immediately, and attending all relevant in-services regarding occupational health and safety
  • Provide planned resident-oriented, goal-directed nursing care in accordance with the provincial standards of care
  • Maintain compliance with the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021 and CNO standards
  • Skin and wound care as per best practice guidelines
  • Supervise and train Personal Support Workers, Registered Practical Nurses and students

Benefits

  • Hourly wage of $28.67 - $33.73
  • $2.00 per hour wage enhancement
  • 15% in lieu of benefits following successful completion of a probationary period
  • 4% vacation pay
