About The Position

At The Dunfield Retirement Residence, we are a luxurious community in the Heart of Toronto committed to our residents’ care, happiness, and well-being. As a vital member of our healthcare team, you'll be responsible for providing compassionate and skilled nursing care to our residents, ensuring their safety and comfort. Under the direction of the Resident Care Manager (RCM) the RPN is responsible for the care of assigned Residents and the provision of leadership/job guidance to the Attendants. This RPN position offers evening shifts from 3:30pm-11:30pm on weekdays and weekends.

Requirements

  • Holds a valid Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) license.
  • Has experience in a retirement residence or long-term care setting.
  • Demonstrates maturity, empathy, patience, and tact, with good physical and mental health.
  • Possesses current CPR and First Aid certifications (with annual renewal).

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of EMAR would be an asset.
  • Familiar with "Commitment to Residents" as set by Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority.

Responsibilities

  • Providing direct resident care in accordance with current and approved standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintaining accurate records of nursing observations and procedures performed.
  • Performing pre-admission Functional Assessments, and admitting and discharging residents.
  • Assisting residents with ambulation and providing emergency medical care as needed.
  • Collaborating with other staff and volunteers to develop and implement activity programs and outside services.
  • Communicating effectively and maintaining good interpersonal relations with medical staff, residents, and families.
  • Supervising the healthcare provided by Personal Support Workers (PSWs) to ensure alignment with resident care plans and provincial standards.
  • Ensuring medical records are maintained and medications are reviewed every 6 months.
  • Administering medications and treatments as ordered by a resident's physician within your scope of practice.
  • Assessing individual resident needs, organizing their care, and participating in the formulation of their care plans.
