About The Position

This is a permanent full-time position for a Registered Practical Nurse in the Eating Disorders Unit. The role involves providing care to adolescents with psychiatric disorders, including knowledge of psychopharmacological interventions and assessment/treatment modalities. The nurse will also participate in community integration activities, provide health teaching, and may take on leadership roles such as charge nurse or preceptor. The position requires the ability to work shifts and meet the physical demands of the role. It is part of the OPSEU bargaining unit.

Requirements

  • Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support.
  • Current CPR – HCP (Health Care Provider).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) Standards of Practice and commitment to maintaining reflective practice standards as described by the CNO.
  • Knowledge of psychopharmacological interventions and psychiatric disorders within an adolescent population.
  • Experience with adolescent assessment and treatment modalities.
  • Experience in crisis and suicide intervention.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and documentation skills.
  • Evidence of strong professional boundaries.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge/experience with computers.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and within an inter-professional team environment.
  • Evidence of sound organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work well in stressful situations.
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational, problem-solving, decision-making, conflict resolution and critical hiking abilities.
  • Knowledge, experience, and skills in participating in community integration activities with adolescents with psychiatric illness.
  • Ability to provide health teaching to parents/families.
  • Ability to perform the physical demands of the position.
  • Proven good attendance record with the capability of maintaining this same standard.
  • Must be able work shifts.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic knowledge of psychopharmacological interventions and psychiatric disorders within an adolescent population is preferred.
  • Experience in Eating Disorders is an asset.
  • CNA certification in psychiatric/mental health nursing is considered an asset.
  • The ability to work with clients of diverse ethno-racial and cultural backgrounds and proficiency in a second language is an asset.
