About The Position

The Registered Peer Recovery Specialist (RPRS) provides peer support services to individuals receiving behavioral health and/or substance use disorder treatment. The RPRS utilizes lived experience in recovery to inspire hope, promote wellness, support engagement in services, and assist individuals in achieving their recovery goals. The RPRS serves as a role model, mentor, advocate, and motivator while supporting person-centered, recovery-oriented services in accordance with DBHDS, DMAS, Medicaid, and organizational requirements.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Registered Peer Recovery Specialist (RPRS) credential or eligibility to obtain credential.
  • Lived experience in recovery from mental health and/or substance use challenges.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to pass required background screenings.
  • Knowledge of recovery principles and peer support practices.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to establish positive working relationships.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and confidentiality requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Basic computer and documentation skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in behavioral health or substance use treatment settings.
  • Knowledge of community resources and recovery supports.
  • Experience working with individuals with Serious Mental Illness (SMI), Serious Emotional Disturbance (SED), or Substance Use Disorders (SUD).

Responsibilities

  • Provide peer recovery support services to individuals receiving treatment.
  • Share personal recovery experiences appropriately to promote hope and recovery.
  • Assist individuals in identifying personal strengths and recovery goals.
  • Encourage self-advocacy, self-determination, and independence.
  • Support individuals in developing coping skills and wellness strategies.
  • Assist individuals with accessing community resources and supports.
  • Promote community integration and participation in meaningful activities.
  • Support individuals in obtaining housing, employment, education, and recovery resources.
  • Accompany individuals to appointments and community activities when appropriate.
  • Participate in person-centered treatment planning.
  • Assist individuals in developing recovery-focused goals.
  • Support implementation of wellness and recovery action plans.
  • Encourage active participation in treatment and recovery services.
  • Advocate for the rights and needs of individuals served.
  • Promote Human Rights protections and recovery principles.
  • Assist individuals in understanding available services and supports.
  • Complete service documentation within established timeframes.
  • Document interventions, client response, and progress toward goals.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records in the electronic health record.
  • Ensure documentation complies with Medicaid and DBHDS requirements.
  • Participate in staff meetings, supervision, and treatment team meetings.
  • Collaborate with clinicians, nurses, case managers, and community partners.
  • Provide input regarding recovery-oriented service delivery.
