About The Position

The Registered Nurse provides direct, age-specific patient care based on medical orders and an integrated, multidisciplinary plan of care, and accurately documents that care. The role integrates technical skills and theoretical knowledge to meet the needs of patients and families; supports prevention of illness and injury, wellness maintenance, and patient comfort; and safely administers prescribed medications while identifying incompatibilities or interactions. Clinical Nurse I provides direction and education and begins acquiring unit-level leadership skills. Clinical Nurse II demonstrates mastery of clinical skills, begins applying that knowledge to a specific patient population, recognizes changes in patient situations, intervenes appropriately, mobilizes resources for individualized patient and family needs, and assumes unit-level leadership responsibilities. Clinical Nurse III demonstrates unit-level clinical knowledge, begins applying it to a specific patient population, anticipates changes in patient situations, intervenes appropriately, and serves as a clinical role model. The nurse follows documented orders from physicians or licensed independent providers, practices within Virginia nursing regulations, and follows the ANA Code of Ethics, established national nursing practice standards, and VCUHS policies and procedures. The role may organize work and delegate and supervise assignments performed by other staff. Clinicians work all three shifts, weekends, and holidays; shift rotations and schedules are set with the Nurse Manager or Practice Manager and may be adjusted to meet unit needs. Salary ranges are $34.00–$49.50 for Clinical Nurse I, $34.65–$51.97 for Clinical Nurse II, and $36.38–$54.58 for Clinical Nurse III. Actual offers depend on relevant work experience, credentials, and qualifications.
