The Registered Nurse (RN) uses the nursing process—including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes and planning, implementation, and evaluation—to provide individualized nursing care. The RN collaborates with physicians and other inter-professional colleagues to plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, and practices within the scope of nursing expertise and applicable standards for the assigned clinical setting. The role provides care across preventative care, health maintenance, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up. Responsibilities include planning and coordinating care, patient assessment and education, triage, and other nursing interventions. The RN practices according to the Nurse Practice Act and administrative rules in the state of practice and licensure, as well as Sanford’s professional nursing practice standards, which are grounded in the American Nurses Association’s Scope and Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics.
