About The Position

St. Catherine of Siena Hospital, a member of Catholic Health, is a not-for-profit community hospital serving the Smithtown area. The hospital’s nurses, physicians, and support staff provide compassionate, evidence-based care to patients and their families, with a focus on healing, mutual respect, and service to the community. The Registered Nurse works in acute hemodialysis and manages patient care throughout dialysis sessions. The role includes assessing patients before and after treatment, administering medications, monitoring and documenting treatment, and initiating and terminating dialysis. The nurse collaborates with other team members and applies knowledge of infection control, water treatment, and blood and drug administration.

Requirements

At least 1 year of prior medical-surgical or critical care experience.
At least 1 year of hemodialysis experience.
New York Registered Nurse (RN) license and registration.
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Familiarity with Fresenius 2008T dialysis machines.
Experience with the Ambulatory Epic Outpatient EMR charting system.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree preferred.

Responsibilities

Assess, monitor, administer medication, document progress, and manage patient care.
Perform pre- and post-dialysis assessments.
Cannulate AVF/AVG and access permacatheters.
Monitor and document intradialytic hemodialysis treatments.
Initiate and terminate dialysis treatments.
Follow infection control practices in a dialysis unit.
Apply knowledge of the water treatment purification system.
Collaborate with other team members.
Demonstrate knowledge of blood and drug administration, incompatibilities, contraindications, and adverse effects.
