About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in Med Surg delivers patient care using the nursing process. The nurse collects and assesses patient data, identifies and prioritizes patient problems and needs, and evaluates the process and outcomes of nursing care. The role coordinates and provides patient teaching and coordinates care among health team members. Working with the interdisciplinary care team, the nurse conducts initial and ongoing assessments, analyzes assessment data, develops and implements plans of care, and evaluates treatment effectiveness. The nurse safely administers medications in accordance with state practice requirements and organizational policies, coordinates patients’ care across hospital departments, advocates for patient safety through ongoing quality improvement, and incorporates the professional practice model into care delivery.

Requirements

Associate degree in nursing or a diploma in nursing.
Valid nursing license from the state of practice.
BLS Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association: required at hire for Roper St. Francis Healthcare locations; preferred at hire and required before independent patient care at BSMH.
Knowledge of contemporary nursing practice and future innovations.
Nursing judgment and skill based on biological, physical, behavioral, and social sciences.
Ability to apply the nursing process in patient care delivery and coordinate care.
Ability to evaluate professional nursing practice to optimize goals and outcomes.
Skills in health teaching, health promotion, patient advocacy, and partnership.

Responsibilities

Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessments in collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team.
