About The Position

The Registered Nurse provides quality care and is responsible for the direct and/or indirect care of assigned patients using professional nursing skills and knowledge. The MG1 Step Down Unit cares for tele-monitored trauma, bariatric, stroke, and critical care patients. The unit has approximately 26 private rooms and a 3:1–4:1 nurse-to-patient ratio. The role is based at St. Mary Medical Center and works weekend day shifts from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing.
• Pennsylvania RN license.
• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• At least 1 year of bedside experience.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients’ learning needs and readiness to learn, identify actual or potential barriers, and incorporate patient education into daily activities based on age and cultural and spiritual values.
• Document admission assessments and reassessments, plans, interventions, and medication use, and monitor effects and outcomes according to policy.
• Use the information management system to enhance communication and document changes in patients’ conditions for appropriate individuals.
• Prioritize work assignments based on changing situations.
• Communicate transfer of patient responsibility and pertinent information at the bedside and during interprofessional rounds.
• Recognize and integrate patients’ special needs and individualize care; recognize and refer cases of abuse as appropriate.
• Include pain management and supportive care issues in the plan of care.
• Adhere to infection control standards and promote and maintain a safe, clean, and orderly environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
