The Registered Nurse provides direct, age-specific care to patients in adult psychiatry, following medical orders and an integrated, multidisciplinary plan of care. The role supports prevention of illness and injury, wellness maintenance, and patient comfort; administers prescribed medications safely while identifying incompatibilities or interactions; and accurately documents care. Nurses provide direction and education, collaborate with the health care team, and organize work and delegate or supervise assignments by other staff. Responsibilities and clinical expectations vary by level: Clinical Nurse I integrates technical skills and theoretical knowledge and begins to acquire unit-level leadership skills; Clinical Nurse II demonstrates mastery of clinical skills, recognizes changes in patient situations, mobilizes resources for individualized patient and family needs, and assumes unit-level leadership responsibilities; Clinical Nurse III demonstrates unit-level clinical knowledge, anticipates changes in patient situations, intervenes appropriately, and serves as a clinical role model. Nurses follow provider orders, Virginia nursing regulations, the ANA Code of Ethics, established national nursing practice standards, and VCUHS policies and procedures. Clinicians work all three shifts, including weekends and holidays. Specific schedules and shift rotations are established with the Nurse Manager or Practice Manager and may be adjusted to meet unit needs. Compensation ranges are $34.00–$49.50 for Clinical Nurse I, $34.65–$51.97 for Clinical Nurse II, and $36.38–$54.58 for Clinical Nurse III. Actual offers depend on relevant work experience, credentials, and qualifications.
