About The Position

This position involves providing nursing care in a Crisis Center environment, focusing on adult populations with psychiatric disorders. The role requires comprehensive assessments, medication management, client education, and collaboration with a healthcare team. The nurse will monitor clients' medical, physical, mental, and behavioral status, administer medications, and provide emergency care as needed. Adherence to professional ethics, safety procedures, and organizational policies is crucial. The position also includes on-call responsibilities and requires maintaining a good driving record for client transportation and business-related travel.

Requirements

Current RN license to practice in the state of Alabama.
Basic knowledge of medical terminology in psychiatric care.
Must possess a valid Alabama driver's license and safe driving record.
Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
Knowledgeable of and abide by HIPAA regulations with regard to protected health information.
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact.
Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to, computer, copier, multi-line phone and fax machine.
Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range.
Able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
Physical presence onsite is essential.

Nice To Haves

Experience in a mental health setting.
Familiarity of psycho-pharmacy and the use of psychotropic medications with the adult population.

Responsibilities

Complete the admission process for clients, including nursing assessments, medication lists, EMR/MARs, and noting physician's orders.
Monitor the medical, physical, mental, and behavioral status of clients.
Review referral and psychiatric consults, update EMR and MAR.
Follow up on lab and medical tests.
Transcribe/post all medication orders to the EMR/MAR.
Provide medication education to staff regarding uses and potential side effects.
Provide training to clients, staff, or MAC workers as needed.
Communicate effectively with the Nurse Manager, CRNP, and physician regarding client's physical and mental condition.
Monitor clients for potential side effects of medications and report findings.
Administer medications/treatments, observing the Six Rights of Medication Administration.
Supervise MAC workers as assigned.
Perform medical monitoring of clients according to Crisis Center protocols.
Provide observation of clients in assigned areas and report any medical or psychiatric issues.
Provide emergency care as needed (CPR, PRN medications).
Recognize the elements of a crisis state and de-escalate or resolve the situation.
Perform on-call responsibilities as assigned.
Adhere to a professional code of ethics.
Ensure that all safety, fire prevention, and other procedures are followed by clients.
Ensure that all assigned duties are implemented according to Indian Rivers Behavioral Health (IRBH) policies and procedures.
Ensure that all assigned duties are implemented according to Department of Mental Health and Medicaid standards.
Ensure that a good driving record is maintained at all times, particularly in transporting clients or driving on center related business.
Maintain communication and awareness of current events by reading memos, e-mails, bulletin boards, and communication logs.
Work independently and/or with teams to complete assigned tasks accurately and in a timely manner with minimum supervision.
Support Organizational Code of Conduct, Standards Compliance, HIPAA and Security Programs.
Maintain the confidential nature of all client and Organization related activities.
Adhere to attendance and punctuality policy.
Comply with all standards related to safety and health by maintaining current TB Test, CPR/First Aid, CPI, and by reporting infections and on-the-job injuries.
Identify opportunities for improving the quality of services provided by the department and the organization.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor or Executive Director.
