The Registered Nurse will provide evidence-based patient care on the Tele 4SW telemetry unit, a 32-bed unit with private rooms. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4 for telemetry patients and 1:5 for MedSurg patients. The unit serves patients with acute and chronic medical conditions; post-surgical needs, including bariatrics and total joint procedures; pediatrics, GYN, podiatry, and general surgery; stroke; and potentially oncology. Nurses manage non-titratable drips and must be able to read and interpret cardiac rhythms. GE monitors are used. Medication titration is not required; set-rate drips include Cardizem, Amiodarone, and Heparin. The position has 12-hour night shifts and 36 guaranteed hours per week. Staff work every other weekend and are first to float. The schedule requires four weekend shifts in a four-week schedule; for night shifts, weekend coverage is Friday and Saturday. Holiday coverage includes at least one major and one minor holiday. The unit is fast-paced, with high admission and discharge rates due to surgical volume. Staff are expected to maintain attendance and punctuality and follow unit practices including bedside shift reporting, intentional hourly rounding, and comprehensive medication education, including side effects. Charge nurses and a house supervisor are available 24/7; a nurse manager is available during normal business hours. CNAs are available based on census and patient needs. Patients may require CPAP or BiPAP as ordered by respiratory therapy and a physician; ventilator support is not available.
