About The Position

The role of the Registered Nurse is the promotion of health and the assessment of, the provision of care for and the treatment of health conditions by supportive, preventative, therapeutic, palliative and rehabilitative means in order to attain or maintain optimal function.

Requirements

  • Must be able to achieve 80% in the Functional Independent Measure (FIM) certification exam within the probationary period or within the trial period and on recertification exams if applying to work on any of the following rehabilitation units: 3C (Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation), 3D POD 1 (Amputee Rehabilitation), 2C (Neurological Rehabilitation), 1D (TB Rehabilitation) and 5D (Respiratory Rehabilitation)
  • Diploma in Nursing
  • Member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Ability to perform the essential clinical duties of the job
  • Ability leading others, including the effective management of challenging interpersonal situations
  • Effective communication, problem-solving and decision-making and reliable work habits
  • Commitment to continuing professional development
  • Demonstrated commitment to team success
  • Resilience and effective coping strategies to manage change
  • Computer literacy in word processing and Electronic Patient Record
  • Working knowledge of the College of Nurses of Ontario standards of practice
  • Able to perform multiple admissions assessments in EPR on a daily basis.
  • Able to work cohesively with the interdisciplinary team in a fast pace environment

Nice To Haves

  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing from an approved nursing program preferred

Responsibilities

  • Plan, manage, evaluate and coordinate comprehensive professional nursing care for patients and families within the context of an inter-professional practice and primary nursing model
  • Use theoretical and empirical knowledge and the input of team members to plan and implement care for patients and their families
  • Education of patients, family, referring facilities and other community providers regarding care of patients
  • Participate in inter-professional team care planning forums, inter-professional rounds and family conferences
  • Provide leadership, supervision and mentorship to students and new staff on the unit related to Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation nursing
  • Participate in professional, program and hospital-wide initiatives, including professional development of self
  • Compliance with and commitment to patient safety responsibilities and corresponding hospital plans, policies and procedures in order to ensure a safe environment for patients
