About The Position

As a member of a multi-disciplinary Team, the Registered Practical Nurse practices in accordance with relevant legislation/standards, the UHN Professional Practice Model and the mission and vision of nursing at the UHN to provide compassionate, collaborative and competent care, while meeting the legal and ethical requirements of the profession.

Requirements

  • Valid registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Diploma in Practical Nursing
  • Must be able to achieve 80% in the Functional Independent Measure (FIM) certification exam within the probationary period or within the trial period and on recertification exams if applying to work on any of the following rehabilitation units: 3C (Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation), 3D POD 1 (Amputee Rehabilitation), 2C (Neurological Rehabilitation), 1D (TB Rehabilitation) and 5D (Respiratory Rehabilitation)
  • Recent related clinical experience preferred
  • Effective problem recognition, problem solving and decision making skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development
  • Demonstrated commitment to team success
  • Resilience and effective coping strategies to manage change
  • Demonstrated computer literacy in word processing and Electronic Patient Record
  • Working knowledge of the College of Nurses of Ontario standards of practice
  • Evidence of satisfactory attendance and punctuality

Responsibilities

  • Plan, manage, and evaluate nursing care for patients and families within the RPN scope of practice in the context of an interdisciplinary practice.
  • Use current theoretical and research knowledge and the input of team members to plan and implement care for patients and families.
  • Participate in inter-professional team care planning forums, inter-professional rounds and family conferences.
  • Provide mentorship to RPN students and new staff on the unit.
  • Participate in professional, program and hospital-wide initiatives, including professional development of self.
  • Compliance with and commitment to patient safety responsibilities and corresponding hospital plans, policies and procedures in order to ensure a safe environment for patients.
