About The Position

The Kansas City VA Medical Center is recruiting an intermittent Float Pool Registered Nurse (RN). The RN provides competent, evidence-based nursing care to assigned patients across multiple care settings and provides oversight of licensed vocational nurses and nursing assistants as appropriate. The role also supports nursing education, orientation, competency development, quality improvement, and outcomes-utilization consultation. Float Pool RNs rotate among the Emergency Department, four Med-Surg/Telemetry units, inpatient mental health, the DOM-SUD 21-day outpatient alcohol and substance abuse rehabilitation program, and intensive care units. When assigned to an ICU, Float Pool RNs care for Med-Surg/Telemetry overflow patients only. Assignments vary according to census, acuity, and staffing needs; extended placements may be made to support long-term staffing. The position requires adaptability across patient populations and care environments, physical stamina, and scheduling flexibility. Care is expected to align with VA I CARE values. The position is intermittent (PRN), with no telework or virtual work available. Relocation and recruitment incentives and permanent change of station are not authorized. Benefits may include health insurance and flexible spending accounts for employees expected to work more than 130 hours per month for 90 days; eligibility depends on the position and hours worked.
