The Registered Nurse (RN) uses the nursing process—including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes and planning, implementation, and evaluation—to provide individualized patient care. The RN collaborates with interprofessional colleagues, including physicians, to plan, implement, and evaluate care, and practices within the full scope of nursing expertise and knowledge using age- and population-specific standards for the assigned clinical setting. The Admissions Recovery Unit (ARU) is a 47-bed unit caring for patients age 17 and older who are admitted for scheduled elective surgical, interventional radiology, endoscopy, and cardiology procedures. Nurses safely prepare patients before procedures and support discharge home afterward. The ARU is open Monday through Friday from 5:00 a.m. until the last patient is discharged in the evening and is closed on weekends and holidays. The RN cares for patients across preventative care, health maintenance, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up. The role includes planning and coordinating care, patient assessment and education, triage, and other nursing interventions. The RN follows the Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules applicable to the state of practice and licensure, as well as the Sanford Professional Nursing Practice foundation of nursing standards and professional conduct.
