The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Admissions Recovery Unit (ARU) uses the nursing process—assessment, diagnosis, outcomes and planning, implementation, and evaluation—to provide individualized patient care. The 47-bed unit admits and discharges patients age 17 and older who are scheduled for elective surgical, interventional radiology, endoscopy, and cardiology procedures. Care focuses on safely preparing patients for procedures and discharging them home afterward. The ARU operates Monday through Friday, from 5:00 a.m. until the last patient is discharged in the evening, and is closed on weekends and holidays. The role collaborates with inter-professional colleagues, including physicians, to plan, implement, and evaluate care. It provides nursing interventions across prevention, health maintenance, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up, including care planning and coordination, patient assessment and education, and triage. The RN practices within applicable nursing standards, state laws, and licensure requirements.
