About The Position

The Registered Nurse in the Family Care Center provides comprehensive, family-centered nursing care across Labor & Delivery, Level II Nursery, Postpartum, and Pediatric services. The role supports mothers and newborns through labor, delivery, recovery, postpartum care, and newborn care in collaboration with a multidisciplinary healthcare team. This is a per diem position with varied hours and shifts of 7 a.m.–7 p.m. or 7 p.m.–7 a.m. When scheduled for on-call coverage, the nurse must be able to arrive at the Family Care Center within 30 minutes of being called in.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing; ADN, diploma, BSN, or MSN accepted.
• Current Wisconsin RN license, Compact RN license, or temporary permit required.
• Nurses holding a Compact License must apply for Wisconsin licensure within 30 days of hire.
• CPR certification required within 3 months of hire.
• PALS and Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certifications required within 12 months of hire.
• NRP certification required within 6 months of hire.
• When scheduled for on-call coverage, must be able to arrive at the Family Care Center within 30 minutes of being called in.

Nice To Haves

• One to two years of Labor & Delivery, Mother-Baby, Pediatric, or Medical-Surgical nursing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide skilled, compassionate nursing care across Labor & Delivery, Level II Nursery, Postpartum, and Pediatric services.
• Assess and monitor mothers and newborns throughout labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum care.
• Perform fetal monitoring and maternal assessments, identifying and responding to changes in patient status.
• Support laboring patients through education, comfort measures, pain management interventions, and emotional support.
• Collaborate with physicians, midwives, and interdisciplinary team members to provide safe, high-quality care during delivery and recovery.
• Provide postpartum and newborn care, including assessments, education, and discharge planning.
• Administer medications, IV therapies, and treatments; evaluate patient responses and document outcomes.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care.
• Educate patients and families about conditions, treatments, newborn care, recovery expectations, and wellness practices.
• Coordinate care and prioritize patient needs according to clinical condition and acuity.
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
• Promote a safe care environment by following patient safety standards, infection prevention practices, and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, professional development activities, and unit-based competencies.
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of patient care and departmental operations.
