About The Position

UW Health is seeking a Registered Nurse to join its new 16-bed Hospitalist Intermediate Care Unit (IMC), opening in 2027 at University Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. The unit will provide comprehensive, high-acuity nursing care to adults with a wide range of medical diagnoses, complex comorbidities, or hemodynamic instability requiring increased support. It will bridge intensive and general care, serving patients stepping down from intensive care or needing a higher level of support during their hospital stay. Patient populations may include people with acute respiratory failure, sepsis, and severe multi-organ dysfunction. This is an opportunity to help create and shape a new care environment. Nurses will provide evidence-based care and collaborate across disciplines to support safe transitions between care levels, particularly for patients stepping down from critical care. The unit fosters critical thinking, evidence-based problem-solving, and ongoing learning to help nurses develop their clinical practice. Work schedules range from 0.6 to 0.9 FTE and include day/evening and evening/night shifts, with weekend and holiday rotation. Compensation includes a competitive starting rate, consideration of relevant work experience, and applicable shift and weekend differentials.
