About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Department is accountable for delivering individualized nursing care to patients. The role applies the nursing process—including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation—to address patients’ physical, psychological, social, spiritual, and educational needs, as well as those of their families. The RN adjusts plans of care as patient needs change, consults medical staff about changes in condition, and documents pertinent information in the Electronic Medical Record and on the ED face sheet. The RN provides care to acutely ill and injured patients, recognizes changes in acuity and signs of crisis, and initiates emergency actions. The role may include triage and, after orientation, charge nurse duties. Triage and charge nurse assignments are typically introduced about one year after orientation, but may occur earlier or later as appropriate. The position is 0.90 FTE (72 hours per pay period), with night hours between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m., every third weekend, and every third holiday.
