About The Position

The Baylis Day Surgery Department provides outpatient surgeries in various specialties including Plastics, Orthopedics, General, Urology, Breast, Gynecology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Dental, and Pain Management. The Registered Nurse (RN) at Baylis ensures continuity of care from admission through discharge. The Pre/Post Op Nurse admits patients, prepares them for surgery, and manages their recovery for discharge. The Circulator Nurse escorts patients to the OR, positions and preps them, acts as a liaison between the surgeon and family, and transfers patients to the recovery room post-procedure. Requirements

  • RN license in the State of Illinois required.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification per policy required.
  • Must be able to position and/or transfer an average adult patient and possess gross coordination sufficient to perform other patient care duties as required.
  • Must be able to withstand prolonged periods of standing.
  • Must be able to perform difficult manipulative skills such as IV insertion and IM injections.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred.
  • Diploma of Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing with enrollment in BSN or MSN program.
  • Diploma of Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing with a national certification.

Responsibilities

  • Admit and prepare patients for surgical procedures.
  • Recover patients for discharge.
  • Escort patients to the OR.
  • Position and prep patients for surgery.
  • Serve as the liaison between the surgeon and family members, keeping the family up to date.
  • Transfer patients to the stretcher and take to the recovery room upon completion of the procedure.
  • Provide delegation, supervision, and provision of nursing care for a designated group of patients through utilization of the nursing process.
  • Provide age-appropriate care.
  • Participate in research when appropriate and incorporate research findings into evidence-based clinical practice.
  • Contribute to quality improvement processes.
  • Adhere to SMH Mission, Vision, and Values, the Nursing Division Mission, Vision, and Philosophy, the ANA Code of Ethics and the Illinois Nursing Act.
