About The Position

The Registered Nurse provides direct nursing care to post-operative and critically ill surgical patients in the 14-bed Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) at UAB St. Vincent’s East. The unit is supported by a Central Monitoring Unit and provides continuous cardiac and hemodynamic monitoring in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

The posting describes two schedules: full-time nights, three 12-hour shifts from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am; and part-time days, four 12-hour shifts from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, working every other Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Benefits apply to eligible positions only.

Requirements

• Hold an Associate Professional Registered Nurse credential from the Alabama Board of Nursing before the hire date or job transfer date.
• Have a diploma from an accredited school or college of nursing and the required professional licensure at the time of hire.
• Obtain BLS Provider certification within 30 days of the hire date or job transfer date; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
• Obtain Advanced Life Support certification within 180 days of the hire date or job transfer date; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care in accordance with the healthcare organization’s established policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Implement and monitor patient care plans.
• Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate.
• Serve as the primary coordinator of disciplines to support well-coordinated patient care.
• Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
• Assess and coordinate patient discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.
