About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) coordinates nursing care, including direct patient care, patient and family education, and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and the continuum of care to meet the needs of patients and families. Working within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model and using the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice as a basis, the RN plans, implements, evaluates, and communicates all phases of care for assigned patients. The RN provides leadership through preceptor responsibilities, formal and informal leadership, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates care based on skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and available resources. The role also calls for strong communication, mentoring, and teaching skills, and may involve participation in committees or projects. Some employees may be required to drive a personal vehicle as part of their responsibilities. The role is eligible for TN sponsorship, which requires state licensure and completion of VisaScreen or equivalent certification.

Requirements

• Graduate of a nursing program.
• Current RN license in accordance with applicable state requirements.
• Maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) competency through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross; ACLS if applicable. Some off-campus positions may not require current BLS competency, as determined by the work area.
• Obtain additional state licensure and/or specialty certification or training as required by the work area.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience working in a team environment.
• Computer skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, weekends, and on-call.
• Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations in the work setting.
• Demonstrated leadership, effective communication, and excellent critical thinking skills.
• Entry-level associate degree RNs with an RN start date on or after April 1, 2020 must provide documented evidence of completion of a baccalaureate nursing program within five years from the last day of the month of the RN start date.
• Entry-level associate degree RNs with an RN start date before April 1, 2020 must provide documented evidence of baccalaureate nursing program completion as stipulated by the degree requirement program in place at the time of hire.

Nice To Haves

• One year of RN experience in an applicable care setting, or one year of LPN experience at Mayo Clinic.
• Prior experience with electronic medical record systems.
