The Registered Nurse (RN) is a vital member of the interprofessional health care team, responsible for comprehensive client assessments, developing and implementing care plans that address physical and psychosocial needs. This role involves monitoring client care and condition for optimal functioning, assuming accountability for complex/unstable clients, administering medications, supervising unregulated staff in medication delivery, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team. The RN will also teach, counsel, and advocate for clients and families to enhance their health and well-being, with a primary focus on direct client care. The profession of nursing encompasses four domains: clinical practice, administration, education, and research. Key roles within clinical practice include direct care provider, critical thinker, assessor, interpreter, coordinator of care, planner, evaluator, participant, developer/leader in quality improvement, decision-maker, problem-solver, case manager, client advocate, leader, and mentor. The nurse performs restricted activities and provides care aligned with the client population and the service delivery system. This position upholds professional and ethical standards in accordance with the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) Code of Ethics, CARNA’s Nursing Practice Standards and Guidelines, and Carewest’s policies. Leadership is essential for success in this role, and the nurse will be responsible for other related duties as required. The Rehabilitation and Community Transition Program (RCTP) is a short-stay restorative care program designed for medically stable adults who need additional assessment, recuperation, and therapy before returning to the community.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a recognized nursing program
  • Current and active registration with CARNA required
  • Current and active Basic Life Support Provider CPR is required
  • Demonstrated leadership skills required

Nice To Haves

  • BScN is preferred
  • CNA Certification an asset (e.g. Gerontology, Rehabilitation, Hospice and Palliative Nursing)
  • 3 years nursing experience is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Completing comprehensive client assessments
  • Developing and implementing client plans/care that address both physical and psycho-social care needs
  • Monitoring on-going client care and condition to ensure optimum functioning
  • Assuming professional accountability for complex/unstable clients
  • Administering prescribed medications
  • Supervising the delivery of medications by unregulated staff
