About The Position
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital provides nursing care to pediatric patients, including acute and critical patients who require intensive medical care. The role involves assessing patient status, prioritizing patient problems and needs, implementing clinical nursing interventions, developing and carrying out care plans to improve outcomes, and maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment. The nurse collaborates with the interdisciplinary care team and provides inpatient and, where applicable, episodic outpatient pediatric nursing care.
Requirements
- Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
- One year of professional experience practicing as a Registered Nurse.
- BLS Basic Life Support or PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support; certification must be obtained from an approved source before direct patient care, and PALS is required within six months of hire based on departmental requirements.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (preferred, not required).
- Recent Medical/Surgical, NICU, Pediatric, OB, ED, or critical care experience (preferred, not required).
- EPIC Electronic Health Record training (preferred, not required).
- BLS or PALS certification at hire is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessments in collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team.
- Apply contemporary nursing practice and provide nursing assessment and interventions for pediatric patients.
- Provide pediatric nursing care to acute and critical patients requiring intensive medical care, including inpatient care and episodic outpatient care where applicable.
- Evaluate, update, and revise plans of care to facilitate planned and expected outcomes.
- Administer medications safely in accordance with state practice requirements and organizational policies and procedures.
- Maintain a safe and therapeutic patient environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
