About The Position
The Registered Nurse for the Medical Progressive Care Unit (PCU) ensures quality nursing care for acutely ill patients in accordance with age-related and individual needs, physician’s orders, hospital policy, and standards of care and nursing practice. The nurse assesses patient needs, plans nursing care, and ensures that the plan is carried out and documented according to the nursing process. The role also participates in developing progressive care unit goals. The Medical Progressive Care Unit is a 15-bed unit with a 1:3 nurse-to-patient ratio. Its patient-centered approach supports holistic care, a broader nursing skill set, and experience with a diverse range of cases and patient demographics. The department describes its environment as positive, welcoming, supportive, and collaborative, with personalized orientation and engaged nursing leadership.
Requirements
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Oregon.
- American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS.
- ACLS certification required within 3 months of hire.
- Experience in acute care nursing.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team using effective communication and conflict-management skills.
- Use a systematic process of assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation, collaborating with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team through care plans.
- Adapt care to unexpected changes in patient status and communicate patient needs and changes in condition to physicians, team members, and/or family as necessary.
- Provide compassionate care to patients during challenging periods or life transitions, with respect and dignity.
- Participate in developing progressive care unit goals.
- Ensure nursing care is carried out and documented according to the nursing process.
