This professional provides planned and highly skilled nursing care for the immediate pre- and post-operative patient. The role involves active participation as a team member in the total perioperative and procedural process, working collaboratively with the healthcare team to ensure continuity of care. Responsibilities include preparing pre-op, PACU, and Endoscopy areas, providing comfort and reassurance, and utilizing the nursing process for safe and individualized care. The nurse will administer medications, comprehend physician orders, perform pre-operative assessments, develop care plans, receive and assess postoperative patients, evaluate care plans and outcomes, and make postoperative telephone calls. The position also includes participation in QA activities, ensuring patient safety, starting and monitoring intravenous lines, maintaining competencies, reporting complications, documenting patient care, preparing patients for discharge, organizing nursing activities efficiently, considering cost containment, assisting with inventory management, and maintaining a clean and orderly work area. Additionally, the role involves preparing rooms between patients, transporting patients, promoting patient and physician satisfaction, adhering to safety policies, practicing good body mechanics, protecting PHI and HIPAA information, following all policies and procedures, reporting incidents, and promoting patient and employee safety.
