About The Position

La Palma Intercommunity Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for its acute psychiatric services. The hospital is a 141-bed acute-care community hospital and a member of Prime Healthcare. Registered nurses provide patient care, education, advice, and emotional support to patients and their families. They also contribute to psychiatric treatment and recovery through therapeutic groups, crisis intervention, and other nursing duties.

Requirements

• Current and valid State license as a Registered Nurse.
• Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintained thereafter.
• Working knowledge of Mental Health Laws and practice standards.
• Working knowledge of the interdisciplinary treatment team process, behavioral health programming, and daily nursing functions for inpatient and outpatient behavioral health units.
• Working knowledge of the continuum of care for behavioral health care.

Responsibilities

• Treat patients and educate them about mental and medical conditions.
• Provide advice and emotional support to patients and/or family members.
• Run therapeutic groups and provide psychiatric crisis intervention.
• Provide seclusion and restraint of patients as needed.
• Record patients’ medical histories and symptoms.
• Help perform diagnostic tests and analyze results.
• Operate medical machinery.
• Administer treatments and medications.
• Assist with patient follow-up and rehabilitation.
• Teach patients and families how to manage illness or injury, diet and exercise programs, self-administration of medication, and physical therapy.
• Perform other related duties.
