About The Position
The Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections, Corrections Services, is hiring a Registered Nurse to provide nursing care to adult male inmates at David Wade Correctional Center in Homer, Louisiana. The role is part of a team supporting public safety in a correctional facility where professionalism, resilience, and teamwork are essential. The position may be filled at Registered Nurse 1, 2, or 3, with the level based on the selected applicant’s experience. The nurse ensures medical care in any given situation, conducts sick call, attends emergencies, and assists the Director of Nursing. This is a temporary job appointment lasting up to four years, though the employee may be converted to a probational appointment if a permanent position becomes available. The position may also be filled as a probational appointment when a non-temporary position becomes available during recruitment. The facility operates 24 hours a day, and applicants may be required to work shift work. The position has a special entrance rate at each level, with salary determined by qualifications and experience, plus premium pay of $5.00 for each hour worked.
Requirements
- Possess a current Louisiana Registered Nurse license, a temporary permit, or a multistate license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state to practice as a registered nurse.
- Authorize the HR Office of DPS&C-Corrections Services to contact prior employers for references under the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) by answering ‘YES’ to the PREA question in the supplemental questions section.
- Verify any degree, certificate, special license, or DD-214 with official documentation before hire.
- Provide transcripts to verify qualifying experience based on college credit or college hours.
