About The Position

The Registered Nurse works on the Cardiac Vascular Post-Surgical Progressive Care Unit (PCU), located in the Crystal Spring Tower. The unit specializes in pre- and post-operative care for cardiac, cardiothoracic, and vascular patients. The RN is accountable for coordinating and providing individualized care to patients of all ages, using delegation and critical-thinking skills within a collaborative, team-oriented approach. The role calls for consistent, compassionate care and respectful service to patients, families, visitors, and colleagues.

The position is primarily day/evening shift with a weekend rotation. A sign-on bonus and relocation allowance are available. The RN assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care; coordinates age-specific interdisciplinary care plans; administers and documents treatments and medications; identifies and supports patient and caregiver education; advocates for patients; and contributes to quality improvement. The RN may also support clinical practice, resource management, staff orientation and feedback, unit education, and projects or activities that improve care and staff participation.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited college school of professional nursing, or graduate of an approved program and eligible to sit for the Virginia licensure exam.
• Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in Virginia or eligible to obtain Virginia RN licensure.
• AHA BLS-HCP required.
• Computer skills required for use of the EPIC electronic medical record.

Nice To Haves

• May be required to obtain or maintain BLS, ACLS, PALS, or NRP based on the specific work unit.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care to achieve optimal outcomes for patients of all ages.
• Complete and document age-specific admission and ongoing assessments and use them to develop plans of care.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team, patients, and families to develop, implement, and evaluate age-specific interdisciplinary plans of care.
• Revise care plans in response to changes in patient status.
• Accurately administer and document treatments and medications using automated computer systems, including electronic medical records.
• Identify patient and caregiver education needs, incorporate them into care plans, and provide and document education.
• Contribute to performance improvement activities.
• Advocate for patients, protect patient rights, and provide psychological, social, and cultural support.
• Apply knowledge of growth and development to care for patients served.
• Use clinical, leadership, or education pathways to support evidence-based, quality patient care and performance improvement.
• Demonstrate clinical expertise in rapidly changing circumstances.
• Plan strategies to reduce length of stay, turnaround time, and resource consumption and to improve patient outcomes.
• Model clinical practice for coworkers, students, and physicians.
• Manage resources, establish priorities, and modify the environment to meet patient care needs.
• Complete manager- or director-assigned projects within specified time frames and guidelines.
• Use problem-solving methods to resolve patient and personnel situations in the work area.
• Take an active role in orienting new employees and provide staff feedback using appropriate communication and documentation.
• Participate in unit, hospital, or system activities that provide staff input into practice, environment, work issues, and decision-making.
• Assist with education activities for the unit or department.
