About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides ambulatory care through in-person visits and telehealth nursing. Care may include reviewing health issues, triaging, reviewing medications, administering immunizations, coordinating care, and educating patients. Telehealth responsibilities include telephone visit planning, pre-ordering labs and consultations under physician direction, assessing symptom-based concerns, and communicating through online services. The RN collaborates with physicians, operations and appointment-service staff, interpreters, international center staff, and medical secretaries. Practice is grounded in the ANA Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice and American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing guidance, and supports patients across the continuum of care. The position includes a focus on transcultural nursing and culturally congruent care. The RN is expected to learn or understand how to incorporate patients’ cultural values, beliefs, and practices into individualized care. Strong critical thinking is needed to synthesize patient history, current requests, and existing care plans. Remote work on a rotational basis may be available. The RN coordinates nursing care, including direct care, patient and family education, and transitions of care. Within Mayo Clinic’s Nursing Professional Practice Model, the RN plans, implements, evaluates, and communicates all phases of care for assigned patients. The RN provides leadership through precepting, formal or informal leadership, and quality improvement; delegates care according to skill, experience, acuity, fiscal accountability, and available resources; and may participate in committees or projects. A subset of employees may need to drive a personal vehicle as part of the role. The role is eligible for TN sponsorship, subject to state licensure and completion of VisaScreen or equivalent certification. New graduate nurses are directed to apply through the Nurse Residency Program.
