The Registered Nurse (RN) works in the 18-bed Mary Brigh 7DE Thoracic/Vascular Intensive Care Unit, which cares for a diverse patient population, including thoracic, vascular, orthopedic, plastics, urology, ENT, oral/facial, interventional radiology-lytic procedures, status 1A heart patients, obstetric patients, and occasionally cardiovascular surgery and medical patients. Care is primarily short-term postoperative care averaging two to three days, with occasional long-term care for complex multisystem failure. The multidisciplinary care team collaborates to support Mayo Clinic’s vision. The RN coordinates nursing care, including direct patient care, patient and family education, and transitions of care. The role supports professional nursing practice across settings and the continuum of care, and follows the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model and ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice. The RN plans, implements, evaluates, and communicates all phases of care for assigned patients, and provides leadership through precepting, formal or informal leadership, and quality improvement activities. The RN delegates care based on skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and available resources. Some employees may be required to drive a personal vehicle as part of their role. This role is eligible for TN sponsorship. Successful sponsorship requires state licensure and completion of VisaScreen or equivalent certification. New graduate nurses should apply through the Nurse Residency Program posting.
