Denver Health is recruiting a mission-driven Registered Nurse for PRN correctional care with the Denver Sheriffs. Under general supervision, the nurse follows American Nurses Association standards of professional nursing and performance and the ANA Code of Ethics while providing care to healthcare consumers. The role applies critical thinking, evidence-based practice, and clinical competence in collaboration with the healthcare team to promote safety and quality outcomes, and uses the Theory of Human Caring and Caritas in daily practice. Correctional care nursing staff provide clinical care at either the Downtown Detention Center or Denver County Jail. These settings have higher clinical acuity and environmental hazards than inpatient and ambulatory settings. Security measures affect daily working conditions, personal and institutional safety, and clinical operations, so environmental awareness, critical thinking, and decisive decision-making are required. The position requires an associate's degree, an active RN license issued by the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA), and BLS/CPR certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross. One year of experience in a direct patient care setting is required; less than one year of correctional care experience is preferred. The position is PRN/intermittent, works days, and pays $43.68–$67.70 per hour.
