About The Position
The Registered Nurse works in the Main OR, Surgery department at UAB St. Vincent's East, providing professional nursing care to patients undergoing surgical or other invasive procedures. The role includes scrub and circulating functions and assisting the operating physician with surgical tasks. The listed schedule is Monday through Friday, 0600–1500.
Requirements
- Diploma from an accredited school or college of nursing.
- Professional nursing licensure at the time of hire.
- At least one year of RN experience.
- Licensed Associate Professional Registered Nurse credential from the Alabama Board of Nursing, obtained before the hire or job transfer date.
- BLS Provider certification obtained within 30 days of the hire or job transfer date; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
Responsibilities
- Deliver professional nursing care in the operative setting to patients undergoing surgical or other invasive procedures.
- Perform scrub functions, including selecting and handling instruments and supplies used during procedures.
- Perform circulating functions, including monitoring, recording, and communicating the patient's condition and managing nursing care before, during, and after procedures.
- Directly assist the operating physician with surgical tasks, including hemostasis, suturing, wound exposure, and patient positioning.
- Prepare operating rooms, surgical instruments, and equipment for use.
