About The Position

The Registered Nurse works in the Psych Child/Teen department at Mercy Medical Center in Aurora, Illinois. This is a full-time night-shift position, with hours from 7 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. The role includes providing nursing care to child and adolescent behavioral health patients, educating and supporting patients and their families, and contributing to treatment, follow-up, and rehabilitation. A sign-on bonus of $10,000 is available for qualified candidates; eligibility and payout terms apply and will be discussed during the interview process.

Requirements

Current and valid State license as a Registered Nurse.
Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintain current certification.
Working knowledge of Mental Health Laws and practice standards.
Working knowledge of the interdisciplinary treatment team process, behavioral health programming, and daily nursing functions for inpatient and outpatient behavioral health units.
Working knowledge of the continuum of care for behavioral health care.

Responsibilities

Treat patients and provide advice and emotional support to patients and/or family members.
Educate patients about mental and medical conditions.
Run therapeutic groups and provide psychiatric crisis intervention.
Manage patient seclusion and restraint as appropriate.
Record patients’ medical histories and symptoms.
Help perform diagnostic tests and analyze results.
Operate medical machinery and administer treatment and medications.
Help with patient follow-up and rehabilitation.
Teach patients and their families how to manage illness or injury, diet and exercise programs, and self-administration of medication and physical therapy.
Perform other related duties.
