Registered Nurse - Onsite Inpatient Virtual Support
About The Position
Sentara is hiring Registered Nurses for its Innovative Inpatient Care Model in the Centralized Virtual Acute Care Department. This is an onsite position at the Sentara Independence office in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and is not remote. The full-time evening position is 36 hours per week. Virtual RNs use technology to enhance hospital patient care and support bedside nurses by handling administrative and other tasks that do not require hands-on care. They work as an additional member of the hospital care team, not as a replacement for bedside nurses. Patients communicate with virtual nurses through a HIPAA-compliant audiovisual device in their hospital room. Nurses perform duties via video call from the Virtual Care hub, including admissions, discharges, patient teaching, and medication reconciliation. The role requires an associate degree in nursing, an active registered nurse license, compact/multistate licensure, BLS certification within 90 days of hire, and five years of recent acute-care bedside nursing experience. Sentara offers a market-competitive compensation package and comprehensive benefits. The stated full-time base pay range is $41.93–$61.01 per hour; additional compensation may be available, and pay within the range may vary based on qualifications, experience, location, market conditions, and business needs.
Requirements
- Associate degree in nursing (RN-Associate’s Degree).
- Registered Nurse license.
- Compact/multistate license.
- BLS certification required within 90 days of hire.
- Five years of recent acute-care bedside nursing experience.

Responsibilities
- Use technology to enhance patient care in the hospital and support bedside nurses.

- Handle administrative tasks that take significant time but do not require hands-on care.
- Work collaboratively with bedside nurses as an additional member of the hospital care team.
- Help ensure patients are informed about the care they have received.
