About The Position

Banner Staffing Services offers registry/per-diem opportunities within Banner Health. These positions are used as needed at Banner facilities and may provide a path to apply for regular Banner Health opportunities. This role is in the 20-bed Level IIIA Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Banner Estrella Medical Center, part of the Women & Infant Services Department. The NICU cares for families in the Phoenix community with a multidisciplinary team that includes nurses, neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists, social workers, dieticians, lactation consultants, therapists, patient care assistants, and developmental specialists. An individualized orientation is provided based on experience and demonstrated competencies. Candidates must have prior RN NICU experience. The RN assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents patient care in accordance with organizational policies and professional nursing standards. The role uses specialized nursing knowledge and judgment to provide care appropriate to patients’ physical and developmental ages and is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by the RN or others under their direction. Registry/per-diem positions do not guarantee hours and do not include a medical benefits package. Post-offer occupational health assessment, drug screening, and background checks are required.

Requirements

Current valid RN license in the state of practice, temporary/interim RN license in the state of practice, or compact RN license valid for the state of practice.
BLS certification.
Prior RN NICU experience.
For Banner Registry and Travel acute care positions, at least one year of experience in an acute care hospital setting, including work within the past 12 months as an RN in the specialty area.
Maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the work area, demonstrated through annual validations.
Complete the post-offer occupational health physical assessment, drug screen, and background check.

Responsibilities

Assess patients’ physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge-planning needs; review patient history, diagnostics, and laboratory data, report abnormal results, and complete assessments and reassessments according to patient needs and policy.
Formulate, initiate, review, and revise individualized plans of care, including discharge plans, in collaboration with patients, families, and the health care team.
Implement care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision, following physician orders, the nursing plan of care, policies, standards, and regulatory requirements.
Promote continuity of care by communicating patient status accurately and completely to other caregivers.
Evaluate patient and family responses to care and teaching, assess progress toward goals, and revise care plans as needed.
Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record accurately, legibly, and promptly; record physician orders in accordance with policy.
Provide evidence-based care and, when applicable, participate in research, shared leadership, education, orientation, precepting, and mentoring.
Contribute to excellent patient outcomes and improvement of nursing quality indicators through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care.
When applicable, supervise staff and departmental workflow.
Collaborate and communicate with staff, physicians, patients, families, external contacts, other health care providers, and clergy regarding patient care and support.
