Registered Nurse, Per Diem

About The Position

The Registered Nurse provides medical care to students and staff at the American School for the Deaf, under the supervision of the Student Health Center Director and Medical Consultant. This is a per diem position and is not benefits eligible. The nurse works as part of the Student Health Center Team and performs nursing duties in accordance with standing orders and procedures.

Requirements

Current Connecticut Registered Nurse license.
CPR certification.
Ability to think analytically, critically, and reflectively.
Ability to provide nursing care using logical thinking and accurate nursing skills.
Proficiency in integrating professional knowledge into practice.
Ability to assess and manage crises.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect clients’ right to privacy.
Ability to function independently while following standing orders and procedures.
Ability to use sign language or willingness to learn.
Valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

Three years of prior school nurse experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Administer and document medications for all students.
Assist the Medical Consultant as needed.
Address students’ medical and emergency needs.
Provide care for in-patient students.
Conduct annual student screenings and document results.
Perform change-of-shift responsibilities.
Serve as a member of the Student Health Center Team.
Assist the Student Health Center Director with paperwork when requested.
Accompany students on off-site trips, including field trips and outside appointments, as needed.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
