About The Position

Refocus is seeking a motivated and skilled Surgical Registered Nurse to provide pre- and post-operative care for patients at its multi-specialty ophthalmology group. The nurse supports patient safety and comfort throughout the surgical process, including procedures in cataract, cornea, glaucoma, oculoplastic, and retina care. The role is per diem, requires a minimum of two shifts per month, and has a 6:30 a.m. start time; shifts end by 3:30 p.m. There are no Friday, night, or weekend shifts.

Requirements

• Four-year degree from an accredited school of nursing.
• Two years of RN work experience.
• Current Registered Nurse license in the state of Connecticut.
• Understanding of operative procedures and post-operative care.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience in a surgical center.
• Comprehensive knowledge of pre-operative nursing care in an ambulatory surgery setting.

Responsibilities

• Admit patients, conduct assessments, and prepare them for surgery.
• Receive patients from surgery, evaluate their needs, and provide post-operative care.
• Monitor and document patient status accurately.
• Administer prescribed treatments and carry out physician orders.
• Provide post-operative instructions and conduct follow-up phone calls.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date operating room logs.
• Monitor the sterile field.
• Assist anesthesia, scrub, and medical personnel to support surgical operations.
• Prepare and check operating room equipment, supplies, and medications.
