About The Position
Join the fast-paced Definitive Observation Unit (DOU) as a Registered Nurse. This 38-bed, stepdown-level unit provides care for postoperative spine surgery patients, higher-acuity medical-surgical patients, and stroke and neurology patients. Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:3 or 1:4, based on patient acuity. The DOU features primarily private patient rooms, many with views of the Pacific Ocean and Torrey Pines Golf Course. You will join a supportive team dedicated to delivering exceptional care for patients with complex and evolving clinical needs.
Requirements
- Registered nursing degree from an accredited school of nursing
- Current CA RN License
- One (1) year of RN experience, 6 months in Inpatient environment
- Current American Heart Association, Healthcare Provider, BLS Certification
- Must be able to speak, read and follow instructions in English
- Must be able to demonstrate positive behaviors
Nice To Haves
- Six (6) months of RN experience Tele, DOU, PCU or Stepdown
- ACLS certification
- NIHSS certification
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and provide individualized patient care in a stepdown/observation setting
- Monitor postoperative patients, including vital signs and clinical status
- Recognize and communicate changes in patient condition promptly to physicians and the care team
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to support safe, effective care transitions
- Maintain clear, compassionate communication with patients and their families
- Promote an environment focused on restoring function, optimizing care, and honoring each patient’s dignity, autonomy, and individuality
