About The Position

Under minimal supervision, the Registered Nurse - Cardiac provides nursing care to an assigned group of patients, matching their needs with the nurse’s competencies. The nurse completes established position competencies during the designated introductory period and performs other related duties as assigned. The role involves assessing patient and family responses to health problems, planning and delivering care, monitoring patient condition, supporting physiologic stability, educating patients and families, coordinating delegated work, and administering medications.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Current Texas State License for Registered Nurse.
• Active healthcare provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from ARC or AHA upon hire; AHA Healthcare Provider BLS must be obtained within 60 days of hire.
• For adult critical care, telemetry, and interim critical care units: AHA ACLS must be completed within 60 days of hire or transfer into the role, and should be completed before the end of orientation.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Two years of acute care experience; previous clinical nursing experience in med/surg, telemetry, or ICU.

Responsibilities

• Assess human responses and adaptation to actual or potential health problems of patients, families, and/or significant others.
• Develop a patient care plan based on the initial assessment, implement and continually evaluate interventions, and reassess needs on an ongoing basis.
• Recognize changes in patient condition and use unit resources, the chain of command, and the Rapid Response Team (RRT) appropriately and promptly.
• Assimilate and prioritize information to take immediate, decisive, patient-focused action.
• Support and maintain patients’ physiologic stability.
• Respond confidently and adapt to rapidly changing patient conditions.
• Document care plans and care provided.
• Identify patient and family education needs and provide individualized instruction using written materials and other available resources.
• Assign nursing care to licensed staff, delegate nursing care to unlicensed staff, and coordinate workflow.
• Calculate and administer medications.
