About The Position

Sentara RMH Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Medical Oncology unit. This is a 36-bed medical-surgical & telemetry unit that cares for oncology, chemotherapy, and end-of-life patients. The team provides high-quality, compassionate care to a diverse patient population. The role utilizes the EPIC electronic medical record and offers supportive staffing with RN ratios of 1:6 (plus charge nurse & PCT support) and PCT ratios of 1:8-13 (plus charge nurse & RN support). Upcoming graduates from approved nursing programs are encouraged to apply. A 10-week Transition to Practice (TTP) program is available, focusing on orientation and skill acquisition for Medical-Surgical areas. For new graduates, this TTP program is the start of a comprehensive 6-month residency program. The program includes formal instruction on nursing concepts and standards, exposure to Sentara policies and evidence-based practice guidelines, hands-on experience with a preceptor, and opportunities for peer networking. Virtual professional development sessions with mentoring are also available (optional for experienced nurses).

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (Required)
  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree – Nursing
  • Upcoming graduates from approved nursing programs are encouraged to apply.
  • Use of EPIC electronic medical record

  • Previous acute care experience (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Performing a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation).
  • Adhering to standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice/nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health).
  • Possessing clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.
