Registered Nurse - Obstetrics
About The Position
The Registered Nurse is responsible for delivering nursing care within the assigned unit’s scope of practice, following hospital policies and procedures, nursing process guidelines, and standards of care and practice. This role is in the Obstetrics department, within the Family Birth Center, a multidisciplinary setting combining maternal, neonatal, and pediatric care in a supportive, family-centered environment. Services include prenatal care; labor and delivery with private suites, natural birth options, and access to anesthesia; postpartum recovery and bonding with breastfeeding support; and newborn and pediatric care, including family education and safety.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Hold a current State of Michigan Registered Nurse license.
- Hold American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS certification as a Healthcare Provider.
- NRP is required within six months of hire into the department for Registered Nurses in Labor and Delivery.
- Specialty-area experience may be considered; experience specific to the unit or position may be required to maintain unit competency as required by a regulatory agency.
Nice To Haves
- One year of professional nursing experience.
- ACLS certification is preferred in other units.
Responsibilities
- Assess assigned patients, document and evaluate their responses to the plan of care, and take appropriate corrective action.
- Plan and implement the patient’s plan of care or standard of care and provide patient teaching using that plan.
- Oversee ancillary personnel performing technical tasks.
