About The Position

The Emergency Department Registered Nurse works in the 42-bed Backus Hospital Emergency Department, treating a wide variety of patients in a fast-paced, evolving environment. The department is a Level III Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center, uses technologies including EPIC EMR, Teleneurology, and wireless medication scanning, and has a separate behavioral health area. The unit promotes a collaborative and supportive culture and professional growth among its team. Under the direction and general supervision of the Nurse Manager, the RN works with interdisciplinary teams in a patient-centered care model. The RN uses evidence-based practices in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act, hospital policies and procedures, and medical staff direction. Using the nursing process, the RN develops plans of care that address patients’ and families’ physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and educational needs.

Requirements

Graduate of a school of nursing.
At least one year of recent Emergency Department RN experience.
BLS certification.
Ability to obtain and maintain ACLS, TNCC, PALS, and CPI certifications within 90 days of hire.
Ability to obtain and maintain moderate sedation administration within 9 months of hire.
Current unrestricted license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Connecticut, required before the start date.

Nice To Haves

BSN preferred.
Certified Emergency Nurse, Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse, or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification preferred.
